On the whole, Zenwalk is a refreshing change from some of the behemoths of distributions that exist at the moment, let down by its package management. If installation can be made a little less intimidating, some parts more user-friendly, and its package management a little more reliable and usable, then Zenwalk could become a truly excellent distribution.

Leaders, Ubuntu and Opera

A few articles on the leaders of two closely linked distributions, Debian and Ubuntu. Firstly, there's an interview with the DPL, Anthony Towns, while there is a somewhat critical article about Mark Shuttleworth.

Keeping with Ubuntu, we can see the plans for Edgy Eft, the next release of Ubuntu. It should be kept in mind that this release should contain lots of fun new things, instead of the long term support of Dapper. Also with open source is the article Gartner: Open source on Windows is the future.

Finally, the relatively popular browser Opera has just released its latest version - Opera 9. This brings along various features, such as widgets (they seem to be applets to me), and a BitTorrent client.

It's my birthday!

That's right, boys and girls - we're one year old today, with a new page appearance to celebrate, and no doubt more bugs. What once worked is now broken. If you do find anything that is misbehaving, send it to me through the contact us page. If that works.

What can you look forward to in the year ahead? Well, much the same as the last year, actually. It is as exciting as it sounds.
