Umm, there is an easier way to install Flash, but it will only work on your own account;

1. Launch Firefox and go to a page with Flash content.
2. Notice that there is an information bar saying that additional plugins may be needed to view this page, click "Install Missing Plugins"
3. Follow the automated instructions
4. Enjoy Flash!

Have you checked SELinux to see if it's the source of some of your partition mounting and file sharing problems?

Yup, same thing regardless of whether SELinux is switched on or off.

An excellent article! Regarding automatic updates this can be set under services as a nightly job. I use it and never more worry about missing updates.
